cantgo

cantgo is an adaptation for two dancers of Róisín’s previous ensemble, site-specific work, Parliament of Ghosts. It is performed by Róisín O’Brien and Lauren Mulhern, with music by Rowan McIlvride, and is Róisín’s first choreographed performance in the US.

Parliament of Ghosts was performed in the eerie, half-abandoned building of the Old Royal High School in Edinburgh Scotland, that at different points in history had been a school, council office, and proposed location for the Scottish Parliament. The performers became ghostly creatures trapped in the shadows, engaging in erratic, alien behaviour, seeming to search for some sort of resolution.

This newly reimagined excerpt, cantgo, sees two people likewise confined to a strange environment, finding ways to coexist, adapt, and carry on.

“You must go on. I can’t go on. I’ll go on.” Samuel Beckett
